It’s the holidays: delicious cookies, candy, and treats are everywhere you look at this time of year. With another holiday season upon us, the AGC staff adopted a challenge to coincide with the upcoming 2015 wellness incentive through the AGC Health Benefit Trust. The idea was to promote fitness throughout the months of October through December and encourage employees to eat right, avoid temptations, and exercise in an effort to try to stave off those dreaded extra pounds. The staff wanted to incorporate a fun, exercise-related event into the challenge as a team-building activity that would also support key issues that AGC is passionate about.
In 2014, AGC has been very active in its efforts to educate the public on the importance of hiring veterans into the workforce and assisting troops returning from active duty with job placement and career technical education. AGC of America has partnered with the national Hiring Our Heroes program as part of the construction industry’s effort to add 100,000 veterans over the next five years, and has hosted numerous webinars and educational sessions about hiring veterans throughout the year.
To continue that support on a local level, a group of AGC staff members participated in the second annual National Veteran’s Day Run on Sunday, November 16 at Mt. Tabor Park in Portland. The race’s national charity partner, Operation Gratitude, is an organization dedicated to lifting the spirits of America’s active duty and military communities by sending care packages of appreciation to veterans, new recruits, first responders, wounded warriors, and care givers in the U.S. military. Despite freezing temperatures, the team completed a 5k race that weaved throughout the beautiful park setting. The Oregon-Columbia Chapter staff was honored to participate in the race and was proud to display our support of veterans and active military personnel…and burn some calories while doing it!
